Case for Support
Pathways for Children, Youth and Families provides hope and opportunity for youth in York Region.
Pathways Home Base Youth Housing Project will deliver effective intervention programs that integrate housing with a diverse range of supports and services. As a key component of our Youth Development Strategy the project will provide a home for 24 youth between the ages of 16 and 24.
Over the next 24 months a volunteer driven Community Campaign will leverage support from corporations, organizations and individuals throughout the GTA and York Region
The innovative model of Home Base Youth Drop-in Centre in Richmond Hill has garnered accolades from social science and healthcare researchers from McMaster University, York University and University of British Columbia. At Home Base, the continuum of care delivered by child youth workers will sustain a supportive home-like environment where clients can focus on personal goals. At-risk and street-oriented youth are given opportunities to build life skills (good personal health, cooking, budgeting, etc.), and enjoy positive recreational activities in a safe and caring environment.
Individually tailored education, training, and employment programs enable youth to move from homelessness to independence. This youth housing project provides a unique and practical approach to:
- Develop and maintain transitional shelter housing in York Region
- Foster a supportive community program to address homelessness
- An employment program geared to youth experiencing multiple barriers
- Secure a permanent home for the Home Base Youth Drop In Centre
- Provide a hub for Pathways Regional Youth Aftercare Service and Outreach Program – see attached PDF for a visual look at our HUB.
